Description
I was inspired by the Lionsteele M2M and Lionsteele M3 when I designed this knife. The Phoenix Utility is a stout general purpose bushcrafting knife that also doubles as a handy hunting and camp knife. It has enough belly to skin. As it is made of premium S35VN steel, the edge should last through many tasks without requiring a touchup.
I’ve extensively tested a prototype of this knife but found the handle was a little too short. The handle on this one has been extended by about 7mm and that makes a difference.
The blade as I’ve mentioned before is made from one of the Super-Steels CPM – S35VN. The blade is approximately 4.3mm thick and is 3.5/8 inches (93mm) long. It has been heat treated to 60 Rockwell by RJ Heat Treatment in Sydney. The spine has been ground to a sharp 90 degrees so it will strike a fero rod with ease to produce a shower of sparks. A matching fero rod can be produced for additional cost.
The overall length of the knife is 8″ (203mm). The scales are Maranoa Gidgee which I cut from fallen timber in South Western Queensland. The scales also have Black Micarta at the front, Blue G10 spacers and liners and brass pins.
The sheath is made with premium Australian buffalo hide and is hand stitched.
